From cristalgarrison at fastmail.net Wed Nov 26 09:03:35 2008 From: cristalgarrison at fastmail.net (Cristal Garrison) Date: Wed, 26 Nov 2008 09:03:35 -0500 Subject: [LASC] ICO MEET UPDATE: E-Punch at Bear Creek 12/6! Message-ID: <492D5737.1030102@fastmail.net> Thanks to the generosity of OCIN (the Cincinnati orienteering club) we will be utilizing the SportIdent e-punching system for our meet at Bear Creek on the 6th of December. Following is a quick description of the system and how it works Sportident is an electronic timing system that replaces the traditional punch card. You carry a small device about the size of a car key, which contains a memory chip. The time you visit each control is recorded on the chip. When you finish, you get an instant printout showing the time you were at each control and the time between controls. Unlike a pin punch, the results will immediately show if you did not visit the controls in the proper order. Below are links to some sample results and some additional info on the e-punching units. This system is very cool, especially if you like to "geek out" and analyze your times as you can now see your times between each and every control. (Assuming of course that you found every control!) Please note that there will be a nominal additional charge of $1 to use the punches and you will be required to sign a waiver stating that you will reimburse the club for $40 if you lose your "punch". There are also directions to Bear Creek at the bottom of this message. Make sure you check the directions and have a map as this particular property is a little bit out of the way. As always, don't hesitate to contact us with questions. Hope to see you all out there!
